Oluwa-tosin – “The Lord is worthy of praise”. This is her name, and this is her purpose. Tosin (pronounced Toe-Sin) is a highly talented gospel musician and songwriter.
Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Tosin first started singing at the age of 9 at Ikoyi Baptist Church. She continued to perform as part of a band and at various events both at home and at school. While she was an undergraduate student at Clarion University, she was well known for performing Yoruba songs (her native language) at every college cultural event. She graduated from Clarion in 2002, and moved to Houston, Texas the following year to study business administration. In 2005 she became an active member of RCCG Living Word Chapel, where she currently serves as assistant choir director.
Right from her early beginnings, the path for the expression of Tosin's talent was clearly paved. Out of her passion for worship, she began to write gospel songs. Her immense vocal talent was obvious at an early age, and she was often encouraged to pursue a musical career. Tosin believes that God has blessed her with this gift so she can show others a multitude of ways to express their love and praise for God. Her songs often blend different musical styles and genres, with an occasional touch of African flavor.
In June 2006, Tosin completed her debut album, Uproot All. Her musical influences include Yolanda Adams, Smokey Norful, Karen Clark-Sheard and Anita Baker. Tosin's music blends influences from some of her favourite musicians with traditional Nigerian musical styles. She loves to praise in every way she can, with the gift that she has been given by her Creator.
